Ruth loves to encourage and equip leaders to make their unique contribution to the world, helping them grow in self-awareness and confidence, as well as enabling them to lead from a place of holistic well-being. Having started her working life as a teacher and youth work manager, she then led for many years in the charity sector, including leading a non-governmental organisation in Uganda, improving life opportunities for vulnerable girls and women living in slums, and several years in a global charity. Here she mentored and supported country leaders and oversaw a global leadership development programme. Based in West Wales, Ruth is growing her fluency in the Welsh language and loves to make the most of the beautiful coastline and countryside on walks and bike rides with her husband, daughter and dog.
Welcome to the CAF leadership development programme – Cohort 4! We are glad you can be a part of this group.
This programme is made up of 4 training days which will take place at:
Make Venues
Broadway House
Tothill St
Westminster
London
SW1H 9NQ
The dates are 19th May, 16th June, 14th July and 9th September.
The nearest tube station is St. James Park (3-minute walk) and Victoria train station is a 15-minute walk away.
Please aim to arrive by 8.45am on each day we meet, with a view to start promptly at 9am. Tea, coffee and pastries will be available on arrival and each day will start with Mark Greer (Day 1) and then different HoDs giving a short leadership reflection relevant to each day. We will be finished by 5pm.
Over the 4 days we will be covering a wide range of leadership material covering important aspects of self-leadership, as well as leadership of teams and individuals. We will be looking at this through the lens of 4 key leadership behaviours: building connections and trust; inspiring and empowering, discovering and developing; and understanding and caring.
At Moringa we aim to create a learning environment which is interactive, experiential, fun, discursive and perhaps most importantly, focused on real life application so come prepared to get stuck in, share your thoughts and enjoy being together as a group sharing this experience. We encourage everyone to be open with those present so that we are able to grapple with real issues and challenges. My role as facilitator will be to create the safety and trust in order for this to happen.
If there is anything it would be helpful for us to know ahead of the session in terms of any particular needs or requirements, please feel free to email Ruth directly (ruth.visick-evans@moringaleader.com).
We will provide course notes and pens, but you may wish to bring a notepad with you.
For our second session on 16th June, we will be looking at the topic of Situational Leadership. As preparation for this, there is a book I would recommend reading called Leadership and the One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard. It’s a short book and an easy read so if you can order it and have a read before 16th June that would be helpful.
There will some other preparation we will ask you to undertake between sessions and these will be mentioned at the end of each session.
In addition to the 4 training days, each person will have 4 sessions of 1:1 coaching with a Moringa coach, which will start part-way through the programme. We will explain more about this later, but in essence it’s an opportunity for you to identify areas of your leadership you would like to develop which are relevant to you and your context.
